Device support

Q: What does the device need to support to run BuddyLocator 2?

  • MIDP 2.0
  • CLDC 1.1
  • Optional:
    • JSR 179 (Location API for J2ME)
    • JSR 82  (Java APIs for Bluetooth)

Q: What does the device need to support to run BuddyLocator previous to version 2?

  • MIDP 2.0
  • CLDC 1.1
  • JSR 179 (Location API for J2ME)

Q: Which devices are supported?
A: I have personally only tested it on Siemens SXG 75 and Nokia N95, but the application should run if the device supports the standards mentioned above.

Q: I don't have any buddies to add just yet. Are there any demo users or something?
A: Yes there are. Currently there are three demo users. They have usernames demo@4444.no, demo2@4444.no and demo3@4444.no.

Q: I've forgot my password. What do I do?
A: Go to the Forgot password page and request a new password to be generated and sent to you by e-mail.

Q: Can anyone see my location?
A: NO. Only the buddies that you add will be able to see your position.

Q: Can anyone add my to their buddy list?
A: They can add you, but they will not be able to see your details or location until you add them to your buddy list as well. It's simple really; if you wanna see them - they will be able to see you.

Q: What do you store of data? How will you use the data?
A: Google says it in a good way: "Don't be evil". I store users login information (passwords are hashed), their last location and status data, and application version info. The data will never used for anything but anonymous statistics that is not tracable back to the user (yeah, not the AOL way).

Price (it's free)

Q: Is BuddyLocator and usage of it free of charge?
A: Yes. Absolutly. (Depending on the network provider there might be fees for the network traffic when downloading the maps and exchaning location data.)

Q: Where can I find more information about the maps you use?
A: Please check out http://j2memap.8motions.com/. I completly rely on the excellent application/library J2MEMap for all display of the map data.

Q: How can I contact you?
A: Please mail me [Address] or use the forum.
